Step 1

What are you hoping to fix?

Pick the one closest to your situation. We'll point you to the right board and form.

Which branch did you serve in?

This tells us which board handles your case.

What kind of discharge did you receive?

It's on your DD-214 (block 24, “Character of Service”). Pick the closest one.

Was your BCD from a general or special court-martial?

A general court-martial can only be reviewed by a Correction Board; a special court-martial can also go to the Discharge Review Board. If you're not sure, that's okay.

When did you leave the service?

The Discharge Review Board can only review discharges from the last 15 years . After that, the Correction Board is the path.

Did any of these play a role in your discharge?

Choose all that apply . These can qualify your case for favorable “liberal consideration” by the board.

Have you applied for an upgrade before?

If you were denied, you may still have options — including a final appeal to a DoD-level board.

How did the military handle your medical condition when you left?

A rating of 30% or higher means medical retirement (monthly pay + TRICARE). Under 30% means a one-time severance check and nothing else.

When were you medically separated?

A special board (the PDBR) handles a specific window of separations.

Did the VA later rate that condition higher than the military did?

A higher VA rating is strong evidence the military under-rated you.

What discharge did you receive?

Most who were separated for refusing the vaccine received a General discharge.

Your likely path

This navigator provides general information, not legal advice, and does not create an attorney-client relationship. The right path depends on the specific facts of your case and your military records, and the board makes the final decision. Valor Veterans Law can review your DD-214 and records and advise on the strongest path for your situation.
